The new iOS update should free up some extra space
If you’re at a point when you need to delete
apps or pictures on your iPhone to free up enough storage to even take a picture,
there is hope on the horizon.
Apple’s new iOS10.3 update brings with it
a few changes and one in particular should free up a bit of extra room on your
phone – although, in fairness, it isn’t clear how much.
Amongst other things the update will
change over to a new file system – the Apple File System (APFS) – which has
been dubbed ‘the next generation in storage’.
Installing APFS via the update on your
iPhone, iPad or IPod touch will replace the existing HFS+ file system that
should free up storage, says The Verge.
APFS’ primary function is to support
features like snapshot as well as boost encryption but it is thought it will
free up extra space due to the way it calculates data on your device, says the Express.
Installing the update is easy, and its
most likely you’ve done it before, but if you haven’t you can go to Settings
> General > Software Update and follow the instructions.
Other new features in the update include
tracking the location of Apple’s wireless earbuds using the Find My iPhone app
by playing a sound or seeing the location of the last time you were hooked up
to Bluetooth.
